Hi guys
Can I monitor Cpu usage, Disk space and uptime on a Windows server with the basic Solarwinds Orion program or do I need the Application Monitor?
Is there any configuration required on the Windows servers themselfs?
Many thanks
Matt
Just Orion and on the servers they need SNMP running.
Orion can monitor your windows and *nix CPU, Physical Memory, Virtual Memory, and logical disk volumes in addition to network performance, all without the need for APM. All that is required on the server is to have SNMP installed and configured.
Awesome.
Cheers guys, have a good easter!
Orion can't fully monitor AIX. You can't monitor process CPU, process memory, or the number of processes running.

True, but this can be done using APM
or the number of processes running
This is easily done using the custom MIB poller built into Orion.

That would be a great field to have. Care to elaborate more on which OID(s) to look at? Considering Server 2k and 2k3? ;-)

aLTeReGo,
Please explain how you are monitoring AIX processes with the APM. I have had no luck with this, and SolarWinds Support is of no help. I have the legacy AM and the new APM ALX. Please provide exact details on how your AIX server are configured (AIX version, and/or NET-SNMP version) and how you have your AM and/or APM configured. The total number of processes running is also in reference to each process running, not an overall number. I am anxiously awaiting your reply! Thanks!

As I like to say around the office, "I'm just the network guy". The server group is responsible for the configuration of the AIX boxes, but they did tell me that the HOST-RESOURCES-MIB is an optional MIB that needs to be compiled as a configure option. They contacted IBM AIX support for assistance and was able to get this working. Good luck.
aLTeReGo, please get more details from your Unix team. We have really had issues with this, and nobody has been able to provide details on how to get it to work. Since your shop is successfully monitoring AIX, please provide AIX versions, and how the HOST-RESOURCES-MIB was configured on these servers. You can get the server version information yourself from the Orion webpage under node details. The rest you will have to get from your Unix team. Thanks in advance.
