After NCM upgrade only able to login with basic credentials.

I upgraded cirrus to NCM today and am only able to log in as an engineer (I think). What did I do wrong? The NCM manager asks for a user name and password and I am using my AD account (the one I used when upgrading the software). Once I log in, Security is greyed out and states that "This account does not have appropriate permissions to view or modify these settings". I am also unable to click on the "Manage Orion Network Configuration Manager Users" option under File.

Do you have access to the NCM database? If so, you can take the following steps to reset your Administrator password.

1. Launch the SQL Database Manager by navigating to Start > Programs > SolarWinds Orion Network Configuration Manager
2. In the window on the left, open the database component called ConfigurationManagement.
3. Right click the table called Options and select “Query Table …”.
4. In the window that opens, click the Refresh button in the top left corner.
5. In the top center of this window, select the radio button for “Read-Write (Results can be edited)”.
6. In the bottom half of the window, find the value for FirsTimeLogin. Double click the word False to the right so that you can edit it. Now change its value to True.
6a. If this value is already True then skip to step #8.
7. Click the Refresh button in the top left corner to make sure your changes were written to the database.
8. Now close the Database Manager, open NCM and log in with a username of Administrator and a blank password. It will prompt you to change this password to something more secure.

Try logging in as the built-in Administrator account and then going to Manage Orion Network Configuration Manager Users. Check the permission on your AD account to see if the role = Engineer.

I logged into the server with the local administrator account but I still get a different login prompt when I open the NCM console. So far the only login that will work with that is my domain AD account. And that one has no rights. No joy.

make sure this is the NCM admin. account and not the window's admin acct.

Had the same problem: couldn't login after upgrade from CIrrus 4.0 to NCM. Your instruction fixed the problem. Looks like a bug in the upgrade process, though I imagine you've already established that and informed the developers....?

If this is the case, I'm surprised it hasn't been reported by more customers. Since both of you experienced the same issue, can you help us out by answering the following questions:

1) What version of Cirrus are you upgrading from? 3.5, 3.5.1, 4.0, or 4.0.1

2) What account did you use when you tried to login after upgrade? In other words, was it the built-in Administrator account or a Windows account that was added previously?
