What's up with NCM not showing passwords anymore? Am I doing something wrong here or did the developer go wild with a bad idea?
Check whether your NCM is configured to show passwords (and more) by going to File / Settings / Security, and then looking at what options have been selected. If you have a check in the "Hide Passwords" option, that may be the problem.
That check box is no longer available in NCM 6.1
I would really like to have this option back. No being able to see the password makes troubleshoot login issues much more difficult.
This was mainly changed due to a large number of Customer Complaints about the Possibility of a Network Compromise.
Apparently you are not running version 6.1.
Access to NCM should be guarded anyways and troubleshooting without this is difficult. I ask that this return.
amen!
Correct, this option has been removed from 6.1 (it's existence was creating opposite reactions from some users, about security, and was a blocking issue for them to run the product).
We have opened an enhancement to have it back, but it's not on the plan yet. Adding your voices to it (50671).
I have discussed with a customer who initially did not like this change either and he explained that his use case was to actually use NCM, through this pre-6.1 capability, as the repository for credential (hence the need to see clear pwds). In other words, as some kind of password vault.
During the discussion, we talked about a short term workaround, which was to basically use a spreadsheet outside of NCM, to store this credential/login repository information.
He tried it and mentionned to me a few weeks after, that he was actually happy about this move and did not require this to be back in NCM.
Granted, all customers and operations are diffrent and this anectode is only one customer, this is why I'd like to hear you guys about the possibility or not, in your environment, to use external solutions for this feature.
