This is a known bug. We have the same problem with VMs moving around with VMotion. We will be addressing this in the first service pack.
Thanks
Regrading vm servers.
will the upcomming sp include the option to exclude templates and development guests from displaying?
How would we identify templtes and development VMs?
The Orion admin would.
Give them an option to "UnManage" the vm guest.
That's a feature rather than a bug, and SPs are restricted to bugs. That said, I'm intersted in the request. What's the use case for hiding some VMs?
The "typical" vm engineer will build thier base OS templates (XP, Vista, 2003 Std, 2003 R2 Std, 2003 Ent, etc. ... 2008. and linux variations). Deployment engineers may try out variations of a theme for various builds. Application support may have their set of test systems, and the list of non-production possibilites goes on.
Each of these they may not want Orion to display, nor take up cpu cycles monitoring.Additonally, since the polling of virtual servers is automated, Orion is also displaying pre-deployment servers. This does not happen with physical servers.
