Problems upgrading to V8.1
I run the config wizard and it hangs on
"executing sql file: on coredbscheme.dbCor"
WOW,
It takes about 20 min for that file to run... before it completes....maybe due to size of the DB?
This is not a hang. We made some major changes to the database for 8.1 in order to improve maintenance. This stage of the config wizard can take a long time. For databases larger than 10GB, it can take over an hour.
Give it a long time to complete.
The payoff is that database maintenance will be much improved.
thanks for replying so quick it did finish fine. I am looking foward to some of the improvements.
it took almost 4 hours to run it on a 33Gig DB, and now the web interface is whacked out, excuse the pun...
John,
Have you upgraded all of your modules? Until you upgrade everything, your web console won't look right. You should be getting a call from Support shortly.
Thanks,
Denny
I hope they call soon... I sent you a PM on this, check your inbox.
Thanks
John
My database is 45 gigs. Any estimate how long it will take to run? I have am still running 7.8.5.
for one that large, It could be 3 or 4 hours. You should schedule it for a time where you can afford to be down. And then leave it and come back.
I recommend using the Orion Database Manager to compact & rebuild each table before doing the upgrade. You may be able to get this down to 25Gb or so.NB. when doing the compact & rebuild of the indexes, your DB is locked & polling stats are no longer collected, so this should be done during off hours as well.
Funny that you mention that because this DB was once 75Gb, and growing rapidly. I had opened a ticket with SW and they kept telling me to run the compact and rebuild tool but that wasnt working. It would keep failing. My DBA ended up doing his own compact on the DB and he got it down to 45Gb. Now the SW jobs actually run.
I did finally upgrade yesterday and for my 53GB database it took about 4.5 hours. Not that bad considering the first attempt to upgrade filled the drive with the tempdb (there was 30GB's free) and I had to restart using upgraded disk. Otherthan that, things went smooth and are working fine.
