Monitoring Citrix Server Farms

I want to know how to configure SolarWinds to do detailed Monitoring of Citrix Server Farms. There are some specific Citrix monitoring solutions on the market but I want to know how to get the one I just spent $40,000 on to do it. Any suggestions?

What specifically do you want to monitor?

I want to track application availability, session time, bounce rate for users, processes running/failed based on user. I am having issues with the performance of the farm and I need some trending analysis to zero in on the cause of my problems.

If you're running on Windows, you can use the AppBuilder to browse to WMI Counters that will--I think--report on those factors. Use the WMI Performance Counter Monoitor

Yes, the server is loaded on a Windows 2003 server. I am not sure I know how to do what you are describing. I will have to work with it and see if I can understand. I have said it before, owning this product suite is like owning a Lowe’s. Everything you need to build a house is in there but you cannot walk in and buy a house off of the shelf. It seems like I need to bring on an engineer just to maintain my SolarWinds installation.

1. Go to APM Settings > AppBuilder.

2. Run through the wizard

3. Select WMI Performance Counter as the Component Monitor Type

4. It will ask you for a target server to browse to. Select your Citrix box.

5. Enter admn credentials for the Citrix box, and it will probe the Citrix box and show you a list of Performance Objects. These are objects you can monitor for the stuff you described above.

6. Select a Performance Object, and it will give you a list of performance counters for that object.

7. Select some objects, and them to a template, and then apply the template to your server.

The key here is that you need to do some research on Citrix and WMI so you can figure out which counters represent the things you want to monitor.
