I am looking to add an additional poller in our environment but i am having trouble finding documentation for it.
I am looking for documents on how it works, how it gets setup and how it works with the current NPM poller..
any ideas anyone??

Yes, this is correct, bearing in mind that devices monitored by NTA must be configured to send Flow data to the Additional Polling Engine. Using an APE as standby solution for NTA necessarily results in a lot of unmonitored traffic on your network.

Orion 9.5.1 Additional Polling Engines can run on Windows Server 2008, but Windows Server 2008 R2 is not officially supported.

You have to manually assign nodes when you set them up. There's also a load balancing tool that you can use to specific the nodes and their poller.
The install is pretty simple. I had our 3rd poller running in about 45 minutes after getting the server.
You'll want to reference "Managing Orion NPM Polling Engines" and, specifically, "Using the Polling Engine Load Balancer" in the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide.

Yes, the additional poller is another NPM server. Unless it's changed, your NTA module will only install on your primary (first) Orion server. You can't install it on an additional polling engine. You will have to patch both servers when you upgrade Orion. I would think you could install the additional poller on server 2008, but you might want to verify that with SW first.
