Hi,
I wandered if anyone knew how to query a specified URL and get a response back from the server presenting the url ?
Basically I am trying to monitor certain services on a MobileIron (VM Linux) baed system.
Thanks
Mat
Depending on the the specific requirements, either our Server and Application Monitor ( Server Monitoring: Dell, HP, IBM, VMware | Server Monitoring: Free Trial) or Web Performance Monitor ( Web Application Monitoring | Web Performance Monitoring: Free Trial) products would work for you.
Rob,
Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned I am currently running SAM 5.2.0 SP1, NPM 10.4.1.
What I should have said was HOW would I do it? Here’s a little more info; I basically need to:
1)Probe the status of the Primary server by issuing /status/status.html and receiving the
“MOBILEIRON-STATUS: OK” message. This indicates a healthy VSP. Any other response
should be considered a failure.
2) Probe the status and state of the Standby by issuing /hastatus.html and receiving the
“MOBILEIRON-STATUS: OK (Mode: Standby)” response.
Sure- check out page 73 in the SAM admin guide: http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/apm/docs/SAMAdminGuide.pdf
Rob, I've looked at page 73 of the guide and whilst Orion will monitor if a web link is up or down it won't query a specific URL in order to receive a specific response. For example when defining the node by entering the public IP it's fine, however when you add /status/status.html it won't resolve the address?
Use the "HTTP Monitor" in an application. Under the SAM settings, click "Manage Templates", create a new template, add a new component, and select "HTTP Monitor", you are given the ability to specify the URL, proxy settings, search string to find in the page, port numbers, and any credentials that might be required.
You can then use this to go to a specific URL, and search for a string on the page to verify the "up" state of the website.
Thanks for the advice. I've now created a custom HTTPS Monitor which appears to work. However, I need to get Orion to report that the node is UP ONLY when it receives a OK syntax response from the URL - all other replies means that the node is DOWN. Is that possible?
Node status in Orion is based on the host's reachability/availability as determined based on ICMP. Only the node child status can be influenced by application status and availability. The node's "child" status indicator is the smaller square located in the bottom right of the node status indicator, as pictured below.
So is there a way I can specify what the child status queries ?
Many thanks
The child status is based on the status of any/all applications being monitored on that node by SAM. By default "Worst" status is always reflected in the child status indicator, but all "Child Status" settings can be configured under [Settings - Web Console Settings] as pictured below.
