Custom views...a little help please

Question

Hi,

I need to create a custom view for a colleague to log in via the webconsole and see this view. He basically needs to see the CPU load, memory usage and i/f traffic on 10 specific nodes (out of about 400 that I have discovered) but have it shown all on one page. I can isolate the nodes and then he can click on each individual one for node details and of course I can customize what node details he sees. But we need to get these node details all on one page rather than clicking each individual node. Is this possible?

Have a look at the following post. It provides a little insight into how you might go about having multiple graphs of differing element types on the same summary view. This is by no means the only way to do it, but it's pretty straightforward and simple.

The question that comes to mind when I think about your scenario is whether or not I would really want to have 30 different graphs on one page. I see how it could be useful in some cases, but I believe I would opt for more of a high-level view of current activity (such as with the reports mentioned earlier), with access to drill into the detail (including graphs) when necessary. One could also tie alerts to the elements in question to bring attention to issues that may require further investigation.

Actually, if you're OK with a tabular representation, since you're only dealing with 10 devices, you could consider using the "Top XX" resources to display the info on the web, and tie a view limitation to the associated summary view. There are a number of ways to go about it. It just comes down to what works best for you.

Your reports helped and with a little hacking around I managed to start creating my own ones. My CPU problem was due to the fact that my polling engine had stopped and CPU was being under-reported in the SQL database. You mentioned that this could be done via graphics as well............is it really complicated or "do-able" as you say?

Jackie,

You should be able to create a new report to show current CPU and memory usage by selecting a report type of "Current Status of Nodes, Interfaces, etc.", and then selecting the desired criteria. I've attached a sample report for CPU and memory utilization, as well as one for current interface utilization. Feel free to use these, or create your own. I included NodeID and InterfaceID as fields, but hid them from view on the reports so that the reports would be "hot", thereby allowing the user to drill into the node and interface details views, or specific graphs associated with the info displayed in the report.

Once you have the reports configured to your liking, you can either create a new summary view and add them to the view via the "Report from Report Writer" web resource, or you can add them to an existing summary view to which this particular user has access.

There are a number of ways to limit the display to just the 10 devices of interest. You can include filters in the reports themselves, apply a view filter to the summary view where the reports are displayed, or perhaps an account limitation for the user in question.

Strange... Unlike yours, my out-of-the-box Current CPU Load report is working just fine.
