Not sure why.
I installed 10.5 and now I have website errors all over the place. Here is the error report:
Turned out to be a permissions issue in the temp folder under where I needed to give "network service" full access.
Somewhere in the upgrade process this was an error that was unreported.
Not sure if you've resolved or not but one quick way to "reset" website is:
perform diag for system [and main NPM if not same box] to open case if desired
shut down all services
rename (.old) or delete \inetpub\solarwinds [(\inetpub\solarwinds.old) or something]
run config wizard and select website
it will now rebuild the web site.
**** Keep in mind you are resetting website...you'll have to re-add any customizations (icons, web pages, etc..)
I've seen this happen too and one time the website just died and nothing was being done to it. No updates.. it was just running one minute the next it stopped. Normally stopping all services renaming the origional website to old and running the config wizard fixes this issue but I thought it was odd. One time the website died when another tech was running a preinstall checker. No installation it was running a checker to see if the server met the requirements for the install.
I'll give it a shot.
Website configuration failed:
• Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Didn't work...
Thats odd it normally creates new web files after you stop all services and rename the original folder they are stored at. When you installed 10.5 did you run it as administrator?
Yes, yes and, yes.
Trying again though.
Also did you confirm the settings as you went through the config wizard screens? I know I sometimes blow through them because it normally holds the correct settings. If all else fails try removing 10.5 and install an earlier version and see if the webpage works again.
yeah, I'm trying to run the configuration wizard again to see what I can do.
Did you install NPM on any additional pollers? If theres mismatched software version it will cause issues. I know I had that problem with NCM once.
Yes I did a few months ago, but they were the built in ones.
When ever you do an update to any of the Modules you need to download the additional poller file from the site as well. It will contain the updated files you need for the additional pollers to work. If you only update the main webserver then that will be the only thing working properly.
just seems really odd that I wouldn’t be able to view graphs and any other data just because of this.
I think they did some DB changes in 10.5 from 10.4 I am not 100% sure but that would cause an issue with somethings no longer working. Sometimes when they do version updates like 10.5 to 10.5.3 you might get away with just updating the primary poller and nothing else but there could be other issues where new features introduced in the newer version not working properly or reports/alerts unable to trigger on specific fields listed in orion due to a change to the DB. If you really want to test this out before doing another update on the additional pollers move a node to the primary poller or simply add it again so it is located in two locations and see if the graphs work. If they work in the primary poller but not any other polling engine then you know for a fact the problem is that you have a mismatched version of NPM installed. From the sound of things it probably is a mismatched version issue and if you are updating NPM on the other pollers you might want to go and update all the other modules you have on them as well while your at it. Remember to run the config wizard after the update on the additional pollers as well.
Ok , I think this is actually related to how NPM is connected to the database. That might be where this problem is.
Please let us know so in the future we know what the solution was. Thank you
