Best way to monitor modules in 6509 chassis

Hi,

We only get alerted if the whole 6509 goes down so I have added environmental controlls via custom mibs so if one of the power supplys goes it tells us - does anyone know how to monitor each module so if one module or blade goes down (i.e. secondary SUP720) it alerts us. I've searched through the MIB walk but don't seem to be able to find anything useful.

actual module information might be kicked out by syslog but the main way that I can see catching this would be all the interfaces on the module going out at the same time.

NPM would see all the interfaces down then you would have to make the correlation that they were all on the same blade. (this happened to us)

If you have syslog going though the device will send out a moule down entry then also.

You need to look up the mib for the alarm you want and then create a custom poller

Sir,

Can you share how you did the alerting for environmental alerts for 6509. We are trying to do the same at our shop and can't see to get the alert. We see the trap coming from syslog, but the advance alert we configured is not working.

Created a Universal poller for OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3.1.6. This catches temps. I then created an alert off the UDP.

Do you know what the OID in SW (advance alerts) is for Chassis, fan, power supply? We are testing with a 6509, we see the traps, but not alerting based on our current alert config.

Fan is 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4.1.3 and gives the current state of all fans in the chassis

PS is 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5.3 and gives the current state of all supplies in the chassis.

I am working on the advanced alert portion of that now I hope to have it done today or tomorrow. I am just having a time creating it to alert me if the values change.
