Orion NPM Syslog Server forward original Hostname

My company would like to use Orion as a focal point for syslog service. Unfortunatly when you forward to another syslog server it replaces the hostname to that of the Orion Server. I would like to see the capability to keep the original hostname of the original device that report the message.

Just FYI, the ability to act as a transparent proxy is a feature of Kiwi Syslog Server today. As noted in Denny's post, the direction is to replace Orion Syslog/Trap with the superior Kiwi version but timing is still TBD.

In the interim, you could setup Kiwi Syslog to receive your Syslog events and have it forward to both Orion and your other systems. This way you're still able to view and search your critical Syslog messages in Orion website.

Chris, following up on this point, is Kiwi Syslog server RFC 3164 compliant? Is it able to forward syslogs and retain the source IP Address of the original device?

Yes. Kiwi Syslog can either forward the source IP address in the message (as per RFC 3164) or you can configure it to act as a transparent proxy and forward the Syslog UDP packets unadulterated.
