Computers won't restart after patching

Here is my scenario.

I run download task to stage the updates to each computer on a weekly basis.

On patch day I run an download/installation task with the option to reboot enabled (regardless of windows update status)

I checked the results and about 33% of the computers did not reboot as configured. I spot checked random servers with a powershell script to verify this, and they have not been rebooted since June. When I've tested this on smaller computer groups it works like a charm. Does anyone have any advice on what I should change to correct this issue? I've started to look at the various log files but since this happened on a large scale I figured it would be a more global setting or issue.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Did the patches get deployed on these computers?

Can you reboot manually using the reboot action of the actions pane?

The patches were deployed. I am prompted with a reboot dialogue upon login. I tested the reboot action on one computer and it worked normally.

If these are the lastest MS patches then this "double reboot" does occur.

Download System- internals from this link: Sysinternals Suite

then use this PS script. (it will automatically reboot the machine

Thanks for the feedback George. These computers didn't reboot once even. I ran a PS script to verify last boot and it occurred last month during patching. So it still appears to be a failure of the reboot portion of the task.

Make sure to check the "No auto-restart with logged on users" security setting as well. If there is a user logged onto the server when it goes to reboot after patches are installed this could be the reason the reboots arent going through.
