Upgrading NPM from 8.5.1 SP3 all the way to current

Question

I am preparing to perform a long overdue upgrade from our existing NPM which is running V8.5.1 SP3 to the Current version.

I vaguely recall reading (a while back) that upgrading from 8.5.1 to 9.0 would render all of my maps incompatible with V9.0 and that I would have to rebuild them all. For me that's some 170+ maps! Is my recollection correct? If so, is there some sort of utility that can convert the maps to V9.0

Any other gotchas I might encounter as I upgrade from 8.5.1 to current?

Seconding what Andrew said, it is advisable to review your particular configuration before deciding. For example-do you have a lot of modules? If so, then it'd probably be a good idea to do a step-by-step upgrade.

The upgrade document--available in your customer portal--is updated regularly and shows many of the considerations you should think about when upgrading. It is in your customer portal--Are you have problems locating it?

Depending on the specifics of a given installation, it may be possible to go directly from 9.1 to 10.0 without any concern. It is, however, generally safer to include the intermediate step of upgrading to 9.5.1 to ensure that all essential incremental updates, particularly with respect to the Orion database, are maintained.

I'm confused.  On May 25, you recommend upgrading from 9.1 -> 9.5.1 ->10 but Andrew Pacetti on May 20, said that was not necessary and you could upgrade directly from 9.1 -> 10.  So which is it?  And why are conflicting answers given to seemingly simple questions?
