Interesting Reporting Issue

We have upgraded from 3.5.1 to 4.x and now the nightly change report seems off - specifically with our PIX 520's. The changes are not shown in the report, just that a change has occurred. When you manually select the configs and compare them you clearly see the changes. I'm not sure why it would do this.

I've also noticed that the Edit Comparison Criteria where I've selected not to show the Cisco Self Signed Certs doesn't seem to be working either - they still show up in the comparison reports. I've attached the report plus the criteria with I added "self-signed 01" and still doesn't work.

And another... "no configs to compare" ? I never saw this before in 3.5.1. Does this mean if I want to view changes over the last 2days, what if no changes were made for the last week? How does it compare the configs to know to pull the config down? There isn't an option to compare to the last downloaded configuration - like in the download config on a per node basis (right click dl config) - why isn't this feature built into the nightly job?

I think the issue is that the next line is different between the two configurations. I was just working on this myself.

I created another couple of criteria in the comparison criteria options and got eveything to work.

First is the following regex expression to ignore the hexidecimal cert in the running config: ^ [A-F\d]{8} [A-F\d]{8} [A-F\d]{8} .*(.*\n)*.*quit$

Second I had to add a blank line comparison so that there is match for both sides of the equation (i.e. what isn't in the starting config has a match): ^$

When I added those two criteria as well then the cert inconsistencies between running and startup configs disappeared.

There may be a more elegant way to do this, but it worked for me.

I recommend contacting support at https://forms.netsuite.com/app/site/crm/externalcasepage.nl?compid=638609&formid=12&h=3d0552f20b2e9bd6580b because we have not seen any issues with the results displayed in the Config Change Report. Please ensure to include the two configs (text file format) you are comparing, a screenshot from within Cirrus showing the comparison results when you manually compare the two configs, and a screenshot showing the results within the Config Change Report.

The statement "no configs to compare" means that there are no configurations stored within the Cirrus database for the given timeframe. The statement "no changes" should appear if there are configurations for the given timeframe; however, no configuration changes are present. The configuration criteria is based off the date the configuration(s) are downloaded and the association to each device.

The nightly configuration backup job has the ability to compare the configuration to the latest download which is available within the Changed Configs section under the Download Config tab. For your last question, are you referring to the nightly config backup job or to another nightly job?

Thanks Haley. The job I'm referring to is configuration change report that we have run right after the nightly backup for all of our devices. We have different groups that the devices belong to and want a separate report per group. Does the configuration comparison for the last downloaded configuration in the nightly backup send a report like the configuration change reports? Or is it possible to have the same Changed Config section in the Config Change Reports so it will compare to the last config rather than just the set timeframe?

Or is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do?

I see the same thing. I run the same job every night after my backups. If Cirrus knows to back something up because it has changed then this report should show you what changed compared to the last backup in the DB no matter how long ago it was.
