Alert if the number of free ports on a Cisco switch falls below 10%.

Hi All-

My engineering group has asked me if I can setup an alert to tell them when the number of free ports on a Cisco switch falls below 10%. I'm not seeing a good way to do that. Has anyone setup something like that through Orion (we don't run NCM if that migh have the number)?

We are currently working on a new product which will provide network capacity analysis and user tracking. Check out the UDT forum for more information.

You will probably not be able to do this out of the box for v1, but it should give you much more information about what you are looking for and you may be able to accomplish this with this product and a custom SQL alert.

How do they define a free port? Not in use now, not in use this week or some other criteria?

This information can be retrieved using an SQL query which means you can build a report. However, I'm not seeing any way to create an alert trigger with this.

There are advanced SQL alerts in NPM now. You could build it there, but the product Mav is sugggesting was created for use cases just like this one.
