Hi all,
I need to do a split of one of our Orion application and database implementations. Normal plan is to move the database and leave the Orion in tact, but this time i want to move the application and leave the database in situ.
Current situation is the Orion 9.1, SL2000, and the database is SQL2000. they sit on a physical server, HP Proliant DL380G4
The element count has gone up to 1800, plus a ton of volumes, so ti is a nightmare now and we have missing data. sp, the plan:
1. create a new windows 2003 server in a VMware environment on the same LAN as the current server
2. Stop and disable ALL Orion services on the current live server, leaving the database in an operational state
3. Full backup of the Orion database
4. Get Orion 9.1 from Solarwinds some how.... and get the license reset for this account (i have lots of Orion servers LOL)
5. Install Orion NPM 9.1 (current version) onto the new VM, and during the wizard, point it at the current database on the live Orion server
6. the wizard should connect the new Orion server to the original Database, and start working
This would in theory leave me up and running immediately with an Orion exactly the same as I had before. Back out plan should in theory be to just shutdown orion on the new server, and run the database wizard on the original live server and re-enable the Orion services.
What do you think? would like to do this tonight, so any help would be great
cheers
dan
