Trigger Alert when Average Response Time is above 500ms over 1hr

Hello,

May I know how do I trigger an Alert when Average Response Time is above 500ms over 1hr and reset when it is below 200ms?

The current polling interval is 300secs; Stats Collection is 10mins. How is the Average Response Time calculated?

Will the alert be suppressed automatically when the Node is down because we have an alert for a down node.

No, I haven't. I want to understand how the average response time is calculated; how do I limit the alert to be sent only when average response time is higher than 500ms over 1hr. I don't want unnessaccery alert to be triggered...

The simple response is that we look at 10 response times over the last 20 minutes. There are a number of complications that could be involved depending on whether any pings are missed.

make the alert and trigger on avg response time >= 500ms

add the part where this has to exist for 1 hour before alerting

add in trigger to make sure the Node.Status = up

should work like a charm

Has anyone created an alert like this and does it work?

I am really curious as to how the average response time is calculated since when I look at some of my devices they show a response time of over 800 in the Network performance monitor console under current response time and then when I right click on a device with a high response time and ping the device I get under 30 ms response time back.

This is really throwing me off and my boss would like to use an alert to spot high response times on our routers but if the way this is calculated can't be trusted then we can't use it.

one graph that will really help you make sense of this is the Min/Max Average response time.

then you can see for a given time period how good/bad and the sometiimes ugly average and why it is like that.

It gets really good when you give it a time period of one hour and then ask for 5 min intervals

So even though you got a 30ms ping back 30 sec later it could have been 800+ that is why we poll at 60sec at my site.
