Switch replacement - will the device name update?

Question

I'm involved with a switch replacement project which will affect about 1000 switches.  Our current plan is to re-use the old IP address but we have a new naming convention.  Will the appropriate fields be automatically updated on the next re-discovery?  Will NPM be able to automatically do that from the host's "DNS" name?

I know I can run an MSSQL query to do this but it would be nice if the re-discovery would do it too.

BTW, I'm running NPM 10.1.3.

I commonly have this issue with replacements and upgrades.

What I found is that I need to delete the name and run an snmp request.  The SNMP get will update the name.

There may be another method for automation with 1000 devices.
