Due to licensing constraints, application polling is disabled. To obtain a larger license, call SolarWinds Customer Service.

We have unlimited licenses for SAM and NPM, but after installing SAM 6.6 last night, and starting to add Application Dependency Monitors, this error started popping up on different application monitors. Anyone else?

The article worked well to solve the issue, but should 1) Tell you where to go to activate and deactivate your license (Admin > License Manager) and 2) that you need to retrieve your Activation Key before you can reactivate the license. (From Customer Support Portal > License Management).

Unfortunately, this did not last, and it seems regularly to be giving the license error across many, many of our components. I'll have to enter a ticket as this seems related to the SAM 6.6 update. Thanks!

I have opened a case, and SW concluded this was not related to our licensing.

Occurs in these 3 circumstances so far:

The Component Monitor is unmanaged
The Component Monitor is failing for some reason (such as an incorrect setting pointing at a non-existent web-site)
A failing Component Monitor is fixed. Testing the CM works fine within the Application Monitor, but i get the licensing error going forward. I believe that unmanaging the Application Monitor, re-managing and forcing a repoll will fix this in some cases, but not in all.

Experiencing this in SAM 6.7 ALX license and I've raised a support ticket.

So the fix for us was:

1- RDP your SolarWinds server
2- Go to Control Panel, Program and Features > Right click on SolarWinds Collector and uninstall it. Also Right click on SolarWinds Job Engine V2 and uninstall it as well.
3- Go to C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Installers and install CollectorInstaller and JobEngine.v2
4- Run the configuration wizard until complete all steps.

I'm encountering the same issue after upgrading to SAM 6.7. I was also on 6.6 for quite a while without issues. The biggest change is that I enabled application dependency monitoring. A couple of days after that I started to get applications that will go into a "Component not licensed state", or the IIS AppInsight will say "Due to licensing constraints, application polling is disabled. To obtain a larger license, call SolarWinds Customer Service". But I have unlimited licenses for both SAM and NPM. Simply restarting the server or services will resolve it for a little while (couple of hours typically), then it starts doing the same thing again.

I will have to try the steps above to see if that solves it. I have already run through the config wizard on my own hoping it would clear something out.

Edit: The steps from @pgaryga did not resolve the issue for me. I will be opening a call and referencing this thread. Hopefully there's a similar case where they have already solved it or have an open bug or something. I can't even disable the Application Dependency monitoring in the admin settings area...it never saves the setting. Guess I should have waited a few hotfixes before using this feature.

I was able to disable application dependency mapping after a reboot. Immediately after it was disabled my system went back to normal and has been stable this week so far. I'm hesitant to open a ticket with SolarWinds Support as that usually never ends well for me (depending on the support person I get I guess).
