How do I adjust the Fast Polling Interval for nodes?
Under Admin-->Polling Settings-->Calculations and Thresholds--> Node Warning Level.
You can't.
tsperbeck,
You can't adjust the interval between the fast polls but you can adjust how long NPM performs fast polls before marking the node as down. In version 9.1 this is configured in System Manager through File ==> Advanced Settings ==> Node Warning Interval tab. I'm not sure if this path is the same in 9.5.
In 9.5 the advanced settings are found in the web console, If you open advanced settings in the system manager, there is a link directly to where the advanced settings are located in the web site.
Ok, now I get to sound like an idiot:
What exactly is the Fast Polling Interval referring to?
When a node doesn't respond to a ping it goes into "fast polling mode" where it checks the node more frequently than the configured polling period (default: 120 seconds). You can't change the "fast polling" rate, but you can change how long it does the "fast polling" before it registers as actually being down.
Ah, thanks for the explanation. I didn't realize that Orion did this (other products I have worked with do this also) but I am pleasantly surprised to find this out.
I understand that the fast polling rate can not be changed (I believe it's every 10 seconds), but where can you change the fast polling duration (default of 120 secs). I can not find it within the Polling Settings under Admin on the web console.
This is the Node Warning Interval, and it is set under Admin-->Polling Settings-->Calculations and Thresholds.
