System Uptime Data Type and Size.

Question

It seem that the SystemUpTime in the Node Table is set to Data Type "real" and Size "4".  With the this set like this it seems that when the upTime goes over 436 the counter is rolled over in the database only.  It looks like to me that a change in Data Type is required for this field.

The question becomes what would be the best Data Type for this?

Ok I figured out why this is happening. The sysUpTime is a 32-bit counter and will roll over after 496 days.

The snmpEngineId (.1.3.6.1.6.3.10.2.1.3) which returns the uptime (of the snmp engine) in seconds and should not roll over for 135 years but not all devices support that counter.

I have 1 node that has been up over 426 days value in MIB walk "3684436429" Value in Database "3.684409E+07".  That works out correclly.

I have another Node that has been up over 513 days value in MIB walk "144467804" Value in Database "1444523".  This does don't work out correctly.

The issue has to be the database not storing the number correctly or it is not getting set correctly during a poll.

In SQL Server, the synonym for REAL data type is FLOAT(24). That should give a valid range of +/- 3.40E+38 with 7 digits of precision.
