Create a Universal Device Poller [on the application server] to poll the OIDs and assign the poller to the nodes you want to monitor

You can then define an advanced alert using the values returned (e.g. printer out of paper)

There are good training videos on how to do these two tasks on the solarwinds website -- I started out by running the video in one monitor while replicating the task on my server in the other.
