Has anyone setup SNMP for SolarWinds NCM on Dell VRTX R1-2210? What commands did you use?
We don't have any VRTX's but the Dell switches we have are so like Cisco in the command structure that you could be mistaken for thinking you are working on Cisco kit.Anyway, the VRTX CLI Reference Guide shows the commands for SNMP config to be just like Cisco. Once setup, the SolarWinds side will be easy.
similar, but not the same. Authentication methods are not the same. Can't seem to get SolarWinds to like anything I set on the VRTX. No problem with my Cisco switches.
I presume you are using v3 then as that is always tough to configure. First off I'd prove you can talk via SNMP to the device by trying v2.Once you know that works then look to configure v3 which will most likely be a matter of getting the right encryption/auth levels sorted. Good luck.
I can't get any version of SNMP to talk with solarwinds. No matter the configuration I get the following on the Dell switch:
%SNMP-W-SNMPAUTHFAIL: Access attempted by unauthorized NMS
Well at least those logs confirm that you aren't being blocked along the way. Have you contacted Dell support to confirm the settings are correct?
I second @mesverrum thought about contacting Dell support. We had a similar issue with some HPE/Aruba kit where we had to change the ssh2 algorithms. This was to do with backups and accessing via SSH but it might be worth digging in to what security / encryption / algorithms the Dells are using as a default and then incrementally downgrading the strength.
