What does the "node/interface is in warning/critical state" mean?

We get some of these alerts sometimes and trying to figure out what they mean.

For example i will get an alert saying "Port-channel 1 is in critical state"

so i log into that switch and check that port-channel and its all good (state is up/up) with it being on and just no issues with it (no errors/packet loss etc).

So what does that error even mean?

Also get "Node X is in critical state" (where X can be any node)

Can i ignore these errors?

These are for Cisco switches/routers by the way.

Have a look at these two KB articles:

1. https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Node-status-is-Warning?language=en_US - if you are not on 2020.2.1 or newer then there is a potential bug that should be fixed from that version and newer.

2. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-calculate-node-status.htm - if you are using enhanced node status then it is possible some overlooked aspect is causing the node/interface to look worse than they are.

If neither of the above help then raise a ticket with support.
