Monitoring RDS performance via synthetic user/transaction.

We are moving one of our applications to be run via RDS to an on premisis server. Can anyone give me pointers on where to find information on how to build/setup a synthetic RDS transaction?

I looked into this and couldn't figure it out. You can pull a bunch of metrics though that should be sufficient for almost all purposes
