Unable to collect configuraton from Cisco devices

Hello,

We've got "Weekly Config Backup" job created in our SolarWinds deployment. The aim of the job, as it name implies, is to collect configuration from our Cisco switches. The job is run automatically once a week. There is a dynamic list created for the job ("Device owner" equals "xxxxx"). The job is successful for most of our devices (over 80%), however, we've recently noticed that it fails for devices in two locations although they are included in the list. Neither is it possible to collect configuration manually ("Connection refused" error). There was no any change in device configuration or SolarWinds recently. The traffic is allowed on the firewall. Any ideas?

Connection refused suggests that either the device itself is not accepting the SSH (or Telnet) connection. Review the VTY ACL on your devices or firewalls in between.

You need to verify if ncm server is able to connect to affected devices.

Connection refused may mean that NCM can't connect to the device or the connection timed out.

I suggest you do the following to test:

1. Putty to the node from the server where the node is added. If you can't connect then the issue is with your environment.

If you can connect then proceed to step 2.

2. Enable session trace.

3. Start packet capture in the server where the node is added.

4. Do a manual backup.

- read the session trace. it will help you understand where the disconnect is.

- PCAP will also help to see if there's a mismatch with algorithm or if there's a communication issue.

You may also create a ticket with SW and provide the session trace and PCAP. Plus the screenshot of what you are getting.
