Adding Passive Node

I'm trying to get clarification on the process for adding a new passive Windows node that has the Solarwinds agent installed. When I go to the add node wizard, it wants credentials rather than a shared secret. One of our other admins has always insisted on just monitoring Windows hosts with SNMP and I don't know why either. I want to monitor the services and I'd prefer the passive agent approach unless someone can talk me out of it.

When you are doing the install, or setup, it's called "server initiated".  I means the agent is sitting passive waiting on a connection from the orion server.   The alternative way is "agent initiated", where the agent starts the connection.  For the most part, when your server is in the same network as your orion server it does not matter which you choose.  In "agent initiated" mode, it will not store the user/password you provide during the setup, it's only used to login to orion and setup the agent and node for you.
