Monitoring what is in what switch port

I have been tasked by LAN team to see if there is a way to show what devices are in what switchports on our switches. But we do not monitor in active ports on our monitor. Does anyone know the capability of SolarWinds to find this information and put it in a report form?

So you do not have to have all the ports in every switch monitored for this to work? That is our delima....we do not monitor all our switch ports due to down (Not admin down) ports showing up on the monitor screen and possibly causing us to miss valuable alerts.

That's correct. UDT will work on all ports even if they are not specifically monitored in NPM.

Does your network team place descriptions on their switch ports? If you're using a Cisco device, do the network guys receive a response when they type "show interface descriptions". If your network guys give their switchport descriptions, you can run a report for interfaces and it would tell you what each interface does.

We do use description on our switchports, but I would not call them correct in some cases. So we cant go off just that information. We need to use the device MAC/IP for correct information.
