Why is VM serial Number not being pulled?

We are pulling data from SolarWinds into a CMDB, however as mentioned in this post SolarWinds isn't pulling serial numbers of VM's into the standard asset inventory data as the table field is "Hardware Serial Number".

There must be logic in the WMI query that checks if it's a VM and then doesn't run that query, or doesn't import that info. Why can't SolarWinds just grab everything and let us decide if we want to use it?

Let's see where to start.. what products are you using? and what polling methods are you using for these VMs?

We have a bunch of products, including SAM and VIM. We are polling the VM's using either Agent or WMI - neither of which bring back the SN. I do have a ticket open for this as well, I just don't understand why whatever SN is returned by either physical or VM Windows machine isn't populated here here regardless (only physical is). Cheers
