Monitor web traffic latency from client's

Currently have an office in Mexico that is complaining about latency when hitting different websites, I have a suspicion it might be from the proxy server/proxy.pac we have to use to bypass some geoblocking and etc (network itself seems to be fine, seems more related to users hitting external websites). I currently have created multiple NetPath probes for two different nodes and different sites, one node using the proxy and other node not using the proxy to view the latency metrics from both. This seems to be working, but was curious if anyone has any advice for a better method to monitor this in Solarwinds? Thanks much!

NetPath which you have, and WPM are my go to's. If that fails a full blown APM like AppOptics (from SW) / App Dynamics / Dynatrace / New Relic / ETC. can tell you a LOT about the performance and the specific user session.

Personal aside. The only issue with (NetPath/WPM) is that people generally tend to put these in server vlans vs end user ones. In medium to large environments you generally get more security that can introduce interesting behaviors, so if you can put those on your user segments I'd give that a try as well.

That's a good point, and when we have a client with an agent out in sites, I will only test 1 or 2 netpaths from it. However, if you have tech like SD-Wan that can alter the path to the site (by picking direct internet, or providers, or back to the data center then out) It really needs that test from the client subnets.

yep, SD-WAN here as well. Found a few interesting behaviors when there is multi-wan or route mapping in place. Credit where its due as well to some well designed networks that failover great and NetPath/WPM caught it when traffic re-routed to a slower link.

Thanks for the information! I installed agents on 2 end user machines to make sure I was looking at the same metrics users see, and sadly dont have any of the other modules/tools you mentioned but gives me something to look at adding here soon.

The other tool that can provide some insight is installing the QOE monitors on some of the clients and adding applications specific to them. The SSL app gives overall averages, but defining specific ones related to complaints can be helpful. Netpath is the best at this, but the QOE experience monitor has been able to add some flavoring as it looks at time to first connect, then time to first application response. I have noticed those numbers point things out, such as, it is not the network. Unlike netpath, you can put the QOE data in a performance analysis or perfstack chart and overlay several nodes in a single chart/ perstack analysis.

Another thing you may consider is trying Web Performance Analyzer and running a robot in your Mexico office. You can do a 30 day free trial and see if it can point out anything.
