Login to child device and shut it down when UPS hits 5 minutes

I'm hoping this is possible. We have several sites with dirty power and periodically the utility goes down and the UPS batteries drain completely. When this happens, the switch being protected by the UPS goes down dirty as well which is causing problems. I'm hoping I can monitor SNMP traps looking for a specific battery percentage and then fire off an alert which fires off a NCM config script. I just can't figure out UPS A knows about Switch A and UPS B doesn't shut down Switch A, B, & C. How do I build this? Anyone?

Which UPS vendor are you using? SolarWinds has some nice dashboarding for some of them.

I would setup a groups (UPS-A > Child-A) and (UPS-B > switch 2, 3, 4).

NCM script should be fairly basic (shutdown).

Do any of your devices support nut (Linux UPS package? Makes this at lot easier as it has server/client built in to share the UPS among many devices if you have any servers/appliances).

We are using Eaton UPS units. So, if I have 150 UPS units, I need to setup 150 different groups?

Yes, you may want to create dynamic groups so they update membership automatically. Eaton has some decent OID's that you can also monitor via universal polling (undp) monitoring to collect things like ,xupsinputsource (utility or battery power), time left (EatonOnBatteryTimeRemaining), etc. You need to set the polling frequency for these specific pollers to one minute for timeliness.

I tend to use snmp get as traps can be very chatty. Retrieving the information still allows you to actually watch what is happening and examine timelines after an event.

But monitoringlife has it correct that NCM should be able to issue the commands. I have not used the linux package though.
