I've just had the strangest request from one of our operations leads...
In my company we monitor most of the computing topology with Solarwinds, but not all of it. Some servers/apps are not monitored for a variety of reasons.
We have an event management unit that tracks incidents affecting IT operations. The event management unit looks to Solarwinds alerts as the primary source of information which kicks off their activities.
Request came in to set up a 'button' in Solarwinds which will generate a 'critical' alert on the event manager board (Solarwinds console). The button will be used when an outage is observed in one of the systems that Solarwinds does not monitor.
I'm thinking some kind of link that will open a web form. The user fills out a few fields and hits 'submit'. Incorporate the web form submit event as an advanced trigger condition to spawn a Solarwinds alert.
I welcome any input from the community about how to set up a 'button' in Solarwinds that will manually generate an alert. Thanks.
