What should we use for another domain

i everyone,

I would like to ask which method would be preferable in my situation.
We have a new domain, where we want to poll the devices, we would use the Main SW poller, but as there is some IP address overlaps, it is not possible.
How should we proceed? Should we plant an APE to the new domain and ensure that it can reach the Main Poller and DB server in the other domain, or should we go with a different Main Poller.

Hi Krezi,
it depends really on things like the latency between sites, the products you have installed, and the amount of devices/objuects you're polling and are going to poll. As a rule of thumb I would say if it's a small number of devices that need to be polled, you could look at using agents, or possibly ORCs. If it's a larger number of devices then APEs would be preferred if possible as you only have to manage one system. Having multiple deployments is really only something to look at if you have a lot of latency issues, or possible scale or security concerns.

Hi micheal,

we only have a standard polling engine installed, without HCO, and I dont think that we want to change that in the near future.

We are only using NCM and IPAM on the server.

Our issue is that we have some new locations, and the IPs are overlapping with some of the already existing ones, so we cannot poll them on the current poller. If I understood it clearly, we would need an APE for this which needs additional licenses as well. Is the installation proedure the same as Solarwinds desirbed it in their guide? Can we use the dashboard on te main poller to monitor the nodes of the addtional one? And is is possible to monitor the devices with the overlapping IPs in the first place?

Hey @Krezi. Yes, in this scenario an APE is the way to go. It is an additional license for each one. But you can actually test it for 30 days. When you run the installer from the main server it copies over the necessary bits. The same DB and web console are used. If you need assistance during the trial the best thing to do is contact your account manager, and they can have a solutions engineer get involved if required.
