Network Dashboard - What are you doing?

Hey folks,

I am working on making a Modern Dashboard for our network operations department. This group is essentially level one/two network support. Many of these folks have limited to no SolarWinds experience. My overall direction is to give an instant and constantly refreshing view into our network infrastructure. I am just curious to see what others are doing. Be gentle, this is a draft/work in progress.

Thanks. I am actually in the process of shaking things up a bit more. After speaking with Chrystal at the SWUG event last week she gave me some suggestions and I have been playing with my presentation a bit. Was hoping others would chime in and post what modern dashboard widgets they have created.

I like your modern dashboard. I have played with it for a NOC, but wish I could have tabs with it. I use a the classic for a NOC to rotate through several screens. One thing I have started to play with are timely charts/tables - if X happened within last Y hours, display what X is. Other than that - maps can be useful to show overall effect of an outage.

Thanks. I really wish we had the ability to mash up modern and classic dashboards. I think that would be game changing because it would really expand the capabilities on what to display. I may have to go back to classic as I am not getting exactly everything I want with the modern.

I have one main dashboard that started out very much like the NPM Summary Replacement from the All In on Modern Dashboards post - All in on Modern Dashboards | THWACK - Newsroom - Hybrid Cloud Observability - THWACK (solarwinds.com).

I just added to it and customized it to fit my organizations needs. We have a very small network group (less than 10) to cover several thousand devices and so its all in one place along with bookmark widgets (table widgets using WHEN THEN case structure - idea originated from here for me - Modern Dashboard - HTML Custom Widget - Forum - Network Performance Monitor (NPM) - THWACK (solarwinds.com) )

I also added in specific alerting widgets so Environmental Alerts are in one widget, NOC Alerts in another, Routing ones in another, the rest are in a MISC Alerts widget colorized by Alert Severity and using a proportional structure with groupings by Alert Name. Everything links to another page with global URL filtering enabled for the drill down dashboard.

After reading the All In On modern dashboards above I went nuts with it.

My gripe is I constantly remind people to scroll down as it is technically three times too long BUT its one "page" that constantly updates on its own. Its got most if not all metrics that I would want at a glance if some event popped off or I needed to vet a complaint at a high level but allows for details/drill downs via clickable links.

I am in process of auditing classic dashboards to migrate to modern ones as alot of old unused dashboards were not suited for some pieces of information that are just quicker/more accessible on a modern dashboard.

Do you have a step by step to make the nodes by device type up down critical boxes? It has been a while since I dug into custom dashboards. I really like this implementation.

For my SolarWinds environment I went to the above linked thwack discussion that was done by @ecmel and followed the procedure outlined here: Importing/Exporting Modern Dashboards by @KMSigma.SWI

Afterwards, I customised further to meet my needs.

While my dashboard looks similar to what @ecmel created it is quite different and busier lol.

will that work if Im starting from scratch? I did something similar at my last job, but that was when I first started there about 7 years ago.
