Integrating Solarwinds with Red Hat Openshift

Hi All.

My organization currently deploying Red Hat Openshift for application development.  Openshift appears to have its own monitoring ecosystem including the Prometheus architecture and Alertmanager capability.

Exploring options to integrate Openshift monitoring with Solarwinds.  Initially I would like to integrate Openshift alerts into Solarwinds.  My organization has an event management / ticketing system built around Solarwinds alerts. We would prefer to not run two alerting and event management systems with Solarwinds and Openshift/Prometheus/Alertmanager.  

Most of the Openshift alert management documents that I can find provide examples using Zabbix (open source monitoring tool). 

Looking for some guidance including examples and/or online articles about using Openshift alerts and metrics in Solarwinds.

Here’s what our Monitoring Team has learned so far about Red Hat Openshift:

• Openshift maintains its own monitoring and alerting ecosystem called Prometheus.
• Prometheus includes a component called Alertmanager that handles alerting, including sending notifications to other monitoring/alerting systems.
• Alertmanager communicates with other systems using standard data languages (JSON, etc.) over HTTP/S

We're going to pursue these steps as initial proof of concept to integrate Prometheus and Solarwinds (assumption that Solarwinds/Monitoring team has enough permissions to configure Alertmanager event actions):

• Identify one or more regularly occurring alerts. Configure alert action to send data over to Solarwinds via SWIS (credential required for Solarwinds).
• Troubleshoot and refine as needed, including two-way communication for alert acknowledgement and clear.
