How can I find out what is causing an alert to be triggered when the alert is empty for example as below is what I am receiving for a couple of servers in our estate
ALERT: Node VMServer is Warning.
Solarwinds:443/.../View.aspx
https://solarwinds:443/Orion/Netperfmon/AckAlert.aspx?AlertDefID=12179
How is the alert itself configured, specifically the content of the email body. You can insert variables within the email content to give you more details and context.
@Markys, Try adding the follow text into your email alert.
Root Cause: ${N=SwisEntity;M=NodeStatusRootCause}
Some other recommendations I would suggest are the following:
1. Add that same text above into the 'Message displayed when this alert in triggered' section. This is in my opinion one of the most under utilized parts of the Alerting engine but it has a very meaningful impact.
Everything you add into that message section gets translated to the Active Alert Details page.
2. Consider adding a custom widget to your node details page to show 'Root Cause' outlined here. https://thwack.solarwinds.com/content-exchange/the-orion-platform/m/custom-queries/3732
