Find code behind existing widgets

With the move to "Modern Dashboards" understanding SWQL is more important than before.

Is there a way to see what's behind existing Widgets? Replicating some of them would be pretty straightforward and easy to figure out, but it would be helpful to see what's going on "behind the scenes" with the existing Widgets to get a better handle on where things are and how SQL and/or SWQL is currently doing things.

I had a co-worker that always said "it's easy, once you know how." and I feel like that's the thinking behind those that use SQL and SWQL regularly. For us new to them it would be helpful to have visibility to how the things work that we use on a daily basis to give us better understanding to expand our thinking.

And, YES, I've view some of Kevin's sessions (Always, very helpful). I'm a check list / step by step kind of guy so I keep a screen open and follow along in my environment so that I anchor the concepts.

I think youre asking to look for the query being used for the widgets. For this doing the below has helped me in the past its not the cleanest but it gets the job done.

1. Hit f12 and go to the Network Section of the browser console that pops up.

2. Refresh the page.

3. The various Queries will be on the left normally towards the bottom of the page, you have to just click them through and click on Payload.

4. Mouse over the query: to get a easier to read pop out.

The screenshot below shows just the browser console to help guide you.

Also in SWQL Studio if you use with QUERYSTATS in your From statement you will get an extra tab that shows the SQL query.

Example:

SELECT TOP 100 name, description

FROM Orion.APM.ApplicationTemplate with QUERYSTATS

Will produce an additional tab, query info is shown in the Query field.

Yes, Hubble is helpful - not %100, but helpful in many cases. I find it interesting that Hubble doesn't work on modern dashboards.
