Orion Platform Down Notifcation

Hi All --

Our main orion platform didn't come up after patching. How do other organizations alert on issues with their main orion platform without a secondary solarwinds platform to generate alerts,. We have one orion platform that polls and a secondary poller.

A single license for an external tool if externally available, else a script/task running on a different internal server

You want to add a script to your patching process to gracefully shut down solarwinds and possibly keep it down till done

Agreed. You need something to at least ping the primary server until it is online. I would recommend checking it after patching anyways. Windows patches 'never' cause problems.

There is the buddy tool - or was. But it requires the sql database to be available, so there are some limitations there too.

I setup a condition on my ticketing system to alert me if it has not received an alert from SolarWinds.

I have a heartbeat alert that fires every couple of minutes. If x have not been received in y period of time it sends me a call out.
