Unable to view a new custom property on an assigned node.

Version 2022.4.0.1179

I tried creating a new custom property and then clicking "Save and assign values." The next screen that allows me to select the nodes would not open properly and I saw two "An error has occurred " notifications. The details of each were stack traces:

The property seemed to be created but I still could not assign values due to the two errors repeatedly showing every time I tried. I then deleted the custom property, switched to the legacy view, and created it that way. It was created with no errors. I then selected the custom property and used the view/edit button to assign the values. I was able to select the nodes and assign the values.

If I then view or edit the node, I don't see the custom property. Shouldn't it appear in the node details screen or be available when editing the node?

Sounds to me like you've hit a bug with the modern view for custom properties. I'm not a fan of it and always switch to legacy view and so have never come across this issue. Maybe log a support call if you prefer the new view ?

But for this - as a default you don't see a custom property on the node details tab. Instead you need to edit the page view (as a reminder this will change it for all nodes that have that same 'view' assigned) and add the "Custom Properties for Nodes" widget.

Once added, you can then click on 'edit' in the top right of the widget to adjust which CPs you want visible, or leave it at the default of all of them.

Thanks for the reply, Stuart. I have also tried using the legacy view and get a "successful" message but the property never appears in the Orion.NodesCustomProperties table when viewing it through SWQL Studio. I have since opened up a support ticket and am currently in a "reproduce/collect diagnostics" cycle with them.

Some other interesting effects are that it eventually causes the Web Console to fail when opening ANY node (an error page appears and the details show it's having trouble finding the property in the table listed above, even after deleting the property) and widgets on the NPM Summary page do not render (Unable to render resource with ID: xxxx). I haven't yet determined why these two things are happening after the property has been deleted - seems like it's cached somewhere. Restarting the SolarWinds Orion Module Engine service did not fix the issue but once we took the nuclear approach and restarted the server, these two effects were resolved.

I'll be sure to post back once I make some progress with Support.

Hello Idelt and thanks for the reply. I thought that too but the upgrade to 2023.1 did not fix the errors. The custom property is not being assigned to any node and doesn't end up in the Orion.NodesCustomProperties table so it doesn't show anywhere.
