Unable to Fetch Database Details due to this Error: "Reference to database and/or server name in 'master.sys.server_resource_stats' is not supported in this version of SQL Server."

Hi Everyone,

I just upgraded from Orion Platform 2020.6 to SolarWinds Platform 2022.4.1 and now I'm getting this error every time I try to open the Database Details option from the Web Console. In the configuration wizard, it was already pre-filled -- the same database FQDN and SQL service account were used during the initial 2020.6 deployments. We're currently using Azure SQL and database is also in Azure.

Error: Reference to database and/or server name in 'master.sys.server_resource_stats' is not supported in this version of SQL Server.

SW support isn't even helpful as they kept just insisting that it's an SQL server misconfiguration without even thoroughly checking the SolarWinds side.

I also got the same issue under All settings > Database details.

Sarcastic thing is, I just installed the evaluation version of SolarWinds v2023.1 with fresh database (SQL 2019) and still got the issue. So I assume that's a bug itself in the product.

P.S : I also tried to reinstall the Orion platform and ran the config wizard. However, error is same.

Looks like a bug because the Azure SQL database may not have that specific DVM (or something related). Hopefully you've raised this with the support team and they'll get it into the backlog for review.

I'm pretty sure that particular DVM pulls "server" information and Azure (with good reason) doesn't want you to know what specific server your database is running on.

Thank you for responding. Thought we don't use Azure SQL, its the Microsoft SQL 2019 standard which is being used.

I actually raised this issue with SolarWinds support and their dev team confirmed that this is a known issue but a fix is not yet available. This issue is also present if you try to view the database details from the SW Database Manager.

@WinterSoldier Another related issue that might be present is the 500 Error when opening "My Deployment Health" both from the SolarWinds web console and the application. I've also raised this with support, hopefully, their dev team is able to check and fix both issues.

I have received the response from the vendor support. While checking the logs it was observed that the VIEW SERVER STATE permission was denied on the object 'server'. database 'master'. The user doesnot have permission to perform this action.
