Additional Polling Engine Database Ports

Do APE's require ports to be open to the SQL Server?
From my understanding only the main Application Server (poller) requires DB access.

The APE's only talk to the application server, not the database.

APE's need access to the database. As well as the main poller on several ports (5671 (rabbitMQ), and all the other APE's on 17777 (SWIS)).
