Adding SAM to Orion version 2020.2.6

Hello guys,

I currently have an SolarWinds deployment (NPM\NCM\IPAM) and would like to add SAM to it for Windows and Linux VMs.

My Orion platform version is 2020.2.6.

Questions:

1. Can I just go to License Manager and add a trial SAM License? 

2. Or do I have to contact support and obtain a trial SAM software (which will support 2020.2.6) to be installed on my current Orion server?

3. Or do I have to upgrade my current Orion deployment?

1. Unfortunately not in 2020.2.6. In the newer versions 2022.3+, you can but not in the older platform versions.

2. If you have not evaluated SAM before, you can run the offline 2020.2.6 installer and there will be an option to install/evaluate additional modules - you can expand that option and select SAM. This will install the product then run the Configuration Wizard to update the database for SAM. This could take 30-60mins assuming no issues. The SAM module will then run in evaluation mode for 30 days.

3. You could upgrade to 2022.4 and then you will be able to initiate an evaluation of HCO for 30 days to trial SAM (and other modules), and swap back to your other licenses at the end of the 30 days.
