I'm running 2020.2.6 HF3 and have been working in the lab to upgrade to 2022.3. Here are some observations that I've seen with the new version. I hope they can be addressed in the next version or at least be directed to an explanation of why these changes were made because the changes below are not improvements.
1. There is a new process for rebuilding the website with 2022.3 here. According to the page, it requires an ample amount of downtime. I can whole heartedly agree with this. If anyone can explain this change I would love to know why it seems we've gone backwards? I was hoping for the Configuration Wizard to reduce the time it takes to rebuild the website, not make it longer.
2. When running the configuration wizard, you can no longer identify the directory where your web files will be stored. Why? The web files are now stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Web. This was a problem for us since we want to keep our web files on a different drive. I have managed to relocate them by stopping IIS, shutting down all services, moving the files where I want them, creating a hard link to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Web and setting Read/Execute permissions to Network Service, IUSER and Authenticated users for the hard link and the target directory, restarting IIS and starting all the services but it's been a pain and every time I repair SolarWinds Observability I never know if my change is going to stick and it took me 45 minutes to repair SolarWinds Observability and run the configuration wizard. I wasn't even testing on a production database! Before, it took 20 minutes in production.
3. When upgrading to 2020.2.6, I noticed that I could add additional modules if I wanted to. Not now. I don't even get a page showing what will be upgraded and to what version or give me the option to add additional modules. How are we supposed to add new modules now?
4. Offline Local help is not available for the new version for all modules. I submitted a feature request to have them available when 2022.4 is released.
Finally, we are trying to hold off on upgrading to 2022.3 based on the vulnerabilities identified here. Based on the number of vulnerabilities in 2022.3 and the fact that we expect to be required to upgrade to the next version that resolves the vulnerabilities we are attempting to conserve resources and focus on the next release which hopefully will be released soon. Support told me that SolarWinds Platform 2022.4 RC1 identified on the page was pulled from availability and is not available for download.
