Why does snmp service on few Ubuntu server start only on localhost?

Hello All,

We have few Ubuntu servers which could not be discovered through solarwinds. After troubleshooting we found that the netstat output shows that the snmp service is listening on port UDP 161 but only on localhost .

(output from netstat command)

udp        0      0 127.0.0.1:161           0.0.0.0:*                           4112/snmpd

Does anyone know how to make sure the snmp service starts with 0.0.0.0:161 instead of the 127.0.0.1:161?

This is more of a Linux related question than SolarWinds but I believe few of the members could had experienced this while using the same.

Well I just found the solution to bind the 0.0.0.0 IP to the snmp service.

In Ubuntu the default configurations for snmpd service are set in /etc/defaults/snmpd file. 

Here I found that localhost IP address was used for the servers which were not getting discovered.
