F5 Devices - Graphs Sample Rate

Hello Thwack Community!

We just bought Solarwinds NPM here in my company. I'm responsible for all F5 devices and so far adding those devices were pretty strainght forward.

The main issue right now is the graphs of my virtual servers and pool-members.

My device is configured for polling for statistics every 20mins as you can see on it's properties:

So my understandig is that every 20min, my polling engine is going to my F5 device and poll statistics. As you can see, under "list resources", my F5 device is collecting node details.

So again, I would thought that every 20mins, Solarwinds is polling my F5 device.

BUT, when I go to my pool graphs, I only see plots (sample rates) every 1 hour, like this:

I tryed changing my polling to 5min or 10 minutes, but that doesn't affect my graphs. And if I edit the "Concurrent Connections by Pool Member" widget, I only see these options:

So how bad is it? I didn't find how to adjust this sample rate anywhere!

Ideas?

It would really not changed your graphs because it is still being showed per hour on the graph. What I would do here is to create a report about the concurrent connections and schedule a report to send in 20 minute interval if you want to check if there's a difference per 20 minute and just stop the scheduled report.

You can also include a graph on the report if the widget is not allowing you to set your desired sample interval.

Thanks for the reply. But that is not an actual solution for us. During our normal operation we often have to troubleshoot applications that are balanced by F5 devices. The most asked question we get is "did we just had a spike in access in app xyz?" and to answer that, we look at the current connections of that specific virtual server over the last hour or two and see a graph plotted every 5mins. Today we use Zabbix + Grafana and we can easily see this kind of thing. We can even look at that same app weeks in the past to see a change in behaviour.

Building a report that spams an inbox every 5min seems not a good solution.

In my mind this is such a simple thing to see that I'm kind of surprised it's not built-in by default on F5 dashboards here in Solarwinds.

You don't have to send the scheduled report, you can create the report and then edit the view and add that report on the view.

Something like the one below.

Got it. I can generate the report with the info I want but, Solarwinds doesn't have the option to run the report every 20min.

I would have to manually create this time option. And if in the future I wish to change that to every 10 or 5min, it's going to be a fun job!
