SolarWinds Redirects to HTTP pages

Hi Thwack Community -

I recently ran the configuration wizard to install a web SSL cert for our SolarWinds Orion website and I followed the guide closely.

This updated the SSL binding for our site, which matches our hostname (for now).

I can now login to SolarWinds but whenever I hit a custom dashboard page or go to 'Manage Application Templates', I am redirected in the browser to an HTTP page that's hitting the old IP address of the site.

How can I update IIS/SolarWinds config to redirect me to the proper URL please?

Hi sum_giais - I appreciate your response.

It turns out that running the config wizard properly installed the cert / URL across the board for our Orion instance.

Where I was confused, as you mentioned, was the menu/dashboard URL configurations. These don't get updated when you run the config wizard, so you have to manually update them to the new URL. I totally forgot this and was I did this, my issue was resolved.

Great to hear thanks for letting us know. That's a troublesome piece of adding in your own links, it's a pain. However to future proof them, you can make the links relative. E.g. if you want to link to a dashboard, set the URL as "/Orion/SummaryView.aspx" instead of "http(s)://myserver/Orion/SummaryView.aspx". SolarWinds automatically appends these relative URL's to however your accessing the website (whether IP, hostname, full FQDN etc.) and also this way it future proofs your menu bars from any environmental changes within your SolarWinds implementation.

Hi @strau2ca did you end up figuring this out and/or is this still an issue for you?

Question: Is this occuring only with specific links or anywhere in your SolarWinds Orion web console? If you go to https://yourOrionServer:443/ and login - at what point will it redirect you to HTTP?

A couple things to check:

Go to Settings -> All Settings -> Web Console Settings (You can set the "Orion Web Server Address" here. Note this is only applicable for variables in alerts
Check the menus you have assigned to your users / account (Go to Settings -> All Settings -> Customize Menu Bars), click edit on any applicable manu bars, if you have your links hard coded with an FQDN / hostname (referencing HTTP) that could be why.
Review configuration data in the Websites table (Open "Database Manager" and run the following query: SELECT * FROM Websites )

There's more you could check but I'll keep it at that for now, hope this info helps!
