Development of automation solution which involves Solarwinds Orion API calls - looking for testing env for API calls

I am developing an automation solution which involves Solarwinds Orion API calls to NPM to get the CDP neighbor info, however we only have production instance and bit afraid to play with it.

So I am looking for any sandbox lab to test some queries ? or should I download the complete 30 day trial to test the Orion Queries . When I tested the hco.demo.solarwinds.com , its not allowing me to create or view the API credentials .

I would just request a 30 day trial and spin an instance up to test against if the client is nervous about using the production server.

This depends on your view on risk. You seem to only be performing Read function against the API and therefore the only risk is that you create a really poor performing query definition, which causes performance issues during run time.

My approach would be to determine how bad your query could be and if you are super confident it cannot be so bad to cause an issue, then make a decision to go ahead or not. Otherwise, if in any doubt create a lab using the trial install.

Create your query in SWQL studio, so you can see how it performs, as it gives you timing indicators before moving in to your API call function.

However SWQL Studio is still asking to integrate onto a server first but client is defending not to go with production due to performance issues in the development phase
