Importing Nodes from a file

Im new to NCM, Ive searched the forums and yet to find an answer.

Id like to import a number of nodes from a file (csv, txt etc), monitor them only via ICMP. Im using NCM just to simplify our setup so that we dont have to use a seperate dashboard for the other nodes.

I cant see an obvious way to do this in NCM, forums suggest maybe using using the SDK?

Anyone have an answer or a link they can point me out?, im using the lastest NCM version.

Sure you just use the sonar with no snmp that will get you icnp nodes

Thanks, I know how to use the sonar discovery, but Im looking to add devices from a file that has there names, ip addresses etc and monitor them via icmp rather than discover them via icmp.

Here is a script, slightly modified from the example on Github referenced above that will allow you to pull ICMP nodes in from a file.

First make a directory called PowershellScripts on your C drive and copy save the script from there (or change the file path in the script).

Next create a CSV file called SimpleAddNodes.csv and save it into your PowershellScripts directory. The file should look like this:

-It is important that IP and Caption are in the very first line as those are the variables that are read in.

-Fill in the CSV files with the appropriate values for the nodes you want to add.

-Next save this code into the powershellscripts directory as addnodes.ps1

-Change Line 7 to your Orion server name. This script will run as -Trusted so what ever ID you are logged into your PC as

needs Add Node rights in Orion.
