day light saving time change alert from SolarWinds

HI Team,

Recently we face one outage due to Day light saving, in SQL some packages were running and during that day light saving hit and jobs not completed on time and we encounter outage.

We want an email notification at least 10 days before , whenever there is a change in DST comes. and we create any alert from Solarwinds for this?

Honestly, we just used to put on Outlook calendar reminders for DST (forward and back). I'm not sure how one would "detect" that a DST thing is happening.

P.S. Wait for everyone to jump on board with "Why aren't you just running all servers on UTC?"

I'm currently dealing with a headache of creating reports that filter by business hours and trying to factor in DST with the servers in UTC.

DST is a funny thing.

Saw earlier this year that my alert for "Orion engine not updating database in last 10 minutes" actually got snagged by this where the DST shift caused it to falsely trigger then reset (eek time jumped forward!). Have been curious what the SWQL for that alert looks like and if it could be fixed.

There is a method in PowerShell that's called IsDaylightSavingTime, and other ways to acces timezone /dst data too like Get-TimeZone.

You could easily put something together in a SAM PowerShell component with Get-Date and some of the example below that checks this if so desired based off whatever warning buffer you like.
